The Training Goal - Why We Train |
The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. In these few words, the Boy Scouts of America sums up its mission. Leaders in the Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Venturing programs are charged with making sure that the values come through. Scouting's founder, Lord Baden-Powell said, "Scouting is a game with a purpose." Fun is the game, values are the purpose, and learning is the process! Scouting has established a standard to describe units where this process is happening. These are known as Quality Units. For leaders to deliver a quality program, they must be trained in the values and methods of Scouting. How effectively Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, and Venturing influence the lives of youth depends on its leaders and their understanding of the aims and methods of the program. For this reason, the Old Baldy Council, maintains an ongoing training program for current and new leaders. That's why we say, "You Owe It To Your Kids To Be Trained." |
